Zamid Center (Special Needs)

The Center addresses populations with physical, mental or cognitive disabilities of different ages and levels of functioning, and their families.

The Center offers a variety of leisure activities to promote personal and social development of each participant according to his needs and abilities, while making an effort to integrate activities as much as possible with the larger population. The Center operates in cooperation with the Jerusalem Municipality - Society Division - Headquarters for Special Populations and in collaboration with the Community Centers' Society – Social and Community Division - Department of the Disabled and Special Populations.

*Days and hours of activities may vary. Opening of the class depends on a minimum number of registrants. Opening more groups and classes will take place according to need and demand. Classes are held in small groups and divided according to age groups

Mandala Scholarship:

Individual integration of people with disabilities, aged 16 and over, in leisure activities at the community center. This program aims to increase the range of recreational areas offered to a person with a disability until reaching full integration in regular social activities through the community center. This will improve the levels of functioning and help develop the necessary skills for functioning in society and contributing to the community. This also serves to facilitate a change in attitudes in the community. The program works in collaboration with the Ministry of Welfare and Social Services.

Eligible: Any person aged 21 and over who has a disability percentage from the Social Security rate of 20% or more.

 

The Circles Social Club

Multidisciplinary Circle, Ages 18 and up

A rotating class, where participants come and enjoy a variety of multidisciplinary activities and skills.

Examples: cooking, art, music, etc.

There are 3 circles

A rotating circle for girls

A rotating circle for boys

A rotating class for girls with a physical disability

 

Boys' Basketball Team

Ages 18 and up

A highly motivated team for developing social and sports cooperation, creating a connection through basketball. This activity delivers deep enjoyment and a high level of satisfaction. A professional and certified coach.

There are 2 basketball teams:

- Basketball for beginners

- Advanced basketball team that participates in the "Champions' League" - This class is intended for the special-needs population with a basic background in basketball. Once a month the team participates in a professional league tournament against other similar teams throughout Jerusalem.

The boys' league games take place in a religious and separate atmosphere that is also intended for the religious public.

 

Girls' Basketball team

Ages 16 and up

A highly motivated team for developing social skills and sportsmanship. A professional and qualified coach.

The advanced basketball team will participate in the Champions' League. This team was created for the special needs population with basic background in basketball. Once a month the team participates in a professional tournament against other special needs teams from Jerusalem.

Games take place in a religious atmosphere that is also intended for the religious public.

Disc Jockey for the Slightly Disabled

A professional course for ages 18 and up

The course will be attended by men and women with borderline intellectual disabilities who dream of becoming professional DJs.

The course will be taught in several sessions. The skill set will later be used for community cultural events. Participants will earn their money honestly and enjoy the satisfaction born of giving. Emphasis will be placed on self-confidence, communication with an audience, and more.

Special Needs Theater Class

Ages 16 and up

A theater class for people with special needs, with an emphasis on stage skills, confidence in front of an audience, self-confidence and more.

At the end of the class the group will perform in a professional show that they will present to the community.
